update

parents, just to let you know the latest. a social studies study guide was given today- test on wednesday. a math study guide for measurement was given today test on Friday. usually at this point of the year, no new skills will be introduced and by now students should be able to handle any skill in math I test them on, so therefore I usually don't announce math tests. all of the tests from now to the FCAT will be standards based skills oriented. They will have approx i-2 tests per week. Thanks ag

FCAT NEWS !!!

Happy New Year to all ! I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday. Well, back to business. With approx. 38 days to the FCAT I was given a wonderful resource to use to help prepare the students for the Math FCAT. It is a packet of FCAT like problems that target specific skills and then repeats those skill using different numbers to provide reinforcement. I will be sending home skills sheets for homework. The one fly in the ointment is that to fully implement this packet I would have to run approx. 1600 copies. Right now most teachers either pay for their copies or have their own private copiers and unfortunetly my copier is not big enough to handle that load, so implementation will be partial --that is instead of homework every night as it's designed for, homework will occur 2 or 3 nights---PLEASE make sure your child does the homework-it will be reviewed in class the following day. Upcoming tests will be based on these skill work sheets. Hopefully grades for some will improve and FCAT scores will be good. Thanks for your support. AG.

An Exciting Year

Are you ready?--Ready to learn more about Math, Science, and Social Studies than you've ever learned before! Math Investigations is taught and as you may know, M.I. does not have very much homework. Grades will be given through tests and Duval County exams. Science and Social Studies will be given report card grades for the first time (instead of S/N) and a study guide will be given approx. two day before the test. It is up to the student to copy the study guide and STUDY the study guide. You can help your child in Math by practicing skip counting with them--for example 3,6,9,12...etc.
last year they should have learned to skip count by 2's, 3's, 5's, and 10's to 1,000. Now practice the 4's, 6's, 7's, 8's, and 9's.Skip counting is essential in third grade.
